Danette White enjoys a full-time private bassoon teaching studio in Poway, CA, with students throughout San Diego County. She's served on the adjunct faculties of San Diego State and Point Loma Nazarene Universities, taught at the San Diego Summer Music Institute (SDSMI), and was the International Double Reed Society (IDRS) Teen Camp Director for the IDRS Conference in Redlands, CA. She accompanies her students on piano for competitions and recitals, and during summer conducts the Bazooka Blasters Bassoon Band comprised of her students!
Danette White is an active member of the Music Teachers' Association of California (MTAC) San Diego Branch, previously serving as VOCE Co-Chair and CM Wind Chair. She's twice revised the Certificate of Merit (CM) Bassoon Syllabus, and contributed to the latest CM Wind Syllabus revision.
Danette White has been a clinician at the Southern California School Band & Orchestra Association (SCSBOA) Convention, previously taught elementary band and orchestra with the San Diego Unified School District, high school band and choir in North Dakota, piano and ensemble classes at McCrea Music, and chamber music at MiraCosta College in Oceanside, California.
She's performed as a substitute bassoonist with the San Diego Opera, San Diego Symphony Pops, San Diego Chamber Orchestra, and Starlight Theater. As a former member of the Grossmont Symphony and the TICO Orchestra she performed Weber's Andante and Rondo Ongarese, and Concerto in F Major as a featured soloist. She's played on stage with the Moody Blues and Michael Crawford!
Training: Master of Music in Bassoon Performance from the University of Michigan; Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Minnesota State Moorhead; attendance at the Music Academy of the West, and Music at Penn's Woods Festival. Teachers have included: Ruth Dahlke, Darryl Durran, Arlen Fast, Dennis Michel, Robert Williams, and Hugh Cooper.
